Dry Needling in Coolum Beach

Dry Needling is a hands-on technique used by osteopaths to support muscle function and movement. It involves the careful insertion of fine, single-use needles into specific muscles and connective tissues.

At our Sunshine Coast clinic, dry needling may be included as part of a personalised osteopathic treatment plan following a thorough assessment of your musculoskeletal system.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling targets muscles or connective tissue that may be contributing to restricted movement or tension. The technique involves inserting a fine, sterile needle into a muscle or connective tissue area. It assists in relaxing tight muscles, reducing pain, improving movement and promoting better blood flow to the area.

When is it Used?

Osteopaths may include cupping in treatment plans for people experiencing:

  • Muscle tightness or reduced tissue mobility

  • Localised muscle discomfort or tension

  • Reduced range of movement in joints

  • Support for functional movement during rehabilitation

  • Musculoskeletal discomfort related to posture or repetitive activities.

The technique is tailored to each patient and applied only when considered appropriate.

Osteopathic Assessment First

Before treatment, your osteopath will perform a detailed assessment, including your health history, lifestyle factors and an evaluation of muscle and joint function.

Dry needling is only applied when it is deemed safe and suitable for your individual situaiton.

Whole Body Osteopathic Approach

Osteopathy focuses on how muscles, joints, nerves and connective tissues work together. Cupping may be combined with other osteopathic techniques, including:

  • Soft tissue massage

  • Joint mobilisation or HVLA adjustments

  • Muscle Energy Technique (MET)

  • Myofascial release

  • Exercise rehabilitation and movement guidance.

This approach aims to support overall musculoskeletal function, not just the area where cups are applied.
